In Brazil, Lauraceae woods are known as Louro in the state of Amazonas and Pará, up to the state of Bahia; and from there to the south they are called Canelas.
Tree Description:
Evergreen tree, 25 to 30 m high and 0.60 to 1.00 m in diameter. Trunk somewhat curved, slightly curved or flattened, branching wide, tortuous and thick.
Wood features:
Slightly yellowish brown to brown heartwood, medium texture; grain straight to irregular; surface glossy and smooth to the touch; imperceptible smell and taste.
Physical-Mechanical Properties:
Louro-preto wood has medium density and mechanical strength and low shrinkage.
Workability:
Louro-preto wood has the characteristic of being soft when cutting.
Indications for Use:
Ordinary furniture, decorative veneers, baseboards, trellises, boards in general, shutters, floors, shipbuilding and cutlery.
